Awaken by Priscilla Shirer Review

As a busy mom of 2, it can be difficult to find time to spend with the Lord. And when I do have the time, it can be hard to decide what to read, and how to spend my time. Do I just dive right into the Bible? Never a bad idea, but sometimes it’s easier to have some structure. Something to read to go along with a passage of scripture to help you delve deeper into what God is trying to say through His Word. No devotional is perfect, or is as close to the words and whispers of God as the actual Bible, but to me, the right kind of devotional book keeps me on track and helps make the Bible relatable and more easily applicable to my life.

And Awaken does just that. I have been a Priscilla Shirer fan for a while, and War Room is one of my all time favorite movies. I love just about anything she writes, and this devotional does not disappoint.

For 90 days, Priscilla will walk you into the presence of God, kneel with you at His feet, and allow His word to penetrate even the deepest recesses of your heart. Each daily devotional, or as she calls them, “devotional entrees,” are about 2 pages long, starting and ending with passages of scripture. You’ll read about Priscilla’s life, her walk with the Lord, and how she was encouraged [and discouraged] along the way. Then there are 2 pages for you to answer a question pertaining to that devotional, or simply to journal out a prayer to the Lord.

Seriously, if you’re looking for a devotional that will be easy and enjoyable to read, that will bring you into the heart of God, and into His word, this is the one to read. It’s fabulous!
