What Does the Fox Say?

What does the fox say? “Happy birthday Knox!” that’s what.

Ha…but for real, due to the rhyming nature of Knox and fox, I anticipate we will milk this theme for all it’s worth for years to come. And because foxes are so darn cute, I’m totally ok with re-using the same theme multiple times over.

We tried our best to celebrate Knox’s first year as much as we could. Poor kid has joined his Daddy, Papa, Uncle Connor and many others with the unfortunate timing of having a birthday close to Christmas. I know as he gets older, we’ll have to be really intentional about celebrating his birthday separate from any sort of Christmas celebration, but one positive aspect is that we’ll always be with family, since we switch back and forth between the Hortons and Grandlienards every Christmas/Thanksgiving!

This year we had 2 parties for him, something we probably won’t do every year, but first birthdays are a pretty epic accomplishment. And although one year olds won’t actually remember anything about their party, [other than seeing pictures] it’s more a party for the parents and a sigh of relief over surviving the first year of parenthood.

Our party in Philly was a few days before his birthday, but it was fun to be able to celebrate with a lot of my family and friends! We held the party at my mom’s school, and since there were a bunch of kids, having a play ground super close was perfect. We did play “pin the tail on the fox,” but I think the play ground [and probably the cake] were the most fun for the kids.

It was a little surreal celebrating Knox’s first birthday, knowing that his first year went by SO fast, and it’s only going to go faster from here on. But it was such a fun celebration with so many people who love him, and simply being thankful for his life, and the blessing of being his mom.

Knox InvitationParty details:

Now for the fun cake eating pictures (and a few “pin the tail on the fox” pictures too)! Knox didn’t go face first [until the end] or destroy his cake, as many babies do, but it was still entertaining to watch him figure out what it was and why all these people were staring at him!

It was so much fun celebrating our little guy…so thankful for all the fun memories we have from his first birthday parties! Thanks to all our family and friends who helped us celebrate him from near or far! He is blessed already by all the people who love him!

  • Such a cute theme! You did a great job, Mama!
