My Top 15 Health + Fitness Tips.

Over the years, I have read about and tried a TON of different health and fitness books, workouts and diets. Some have worked, some haven’t, but along the way, I learned a lot about what works and doesn’t work for my body.

For example, last week I wrote about my February Whole[ish]30 challenge. Through that experience, I learned that what I needed was a lifestyle diet that I knew I could continue longer term than just 30 days.

Whole[ish] 30.

30 days ago, I set out to successfully complete a Whole30. The first week I did it exactly by the book, and as per usual, I was “hangry,” grumpy and had constant headaches. I didn’t realize how bad it was until Stuart said, “if you’re going to be this grouchy, maybe we shouldn’t do this anymore.” Ehhh sorry husband.

That mixed with a few other “reality collides with the best intentions,” and I decided maybe I needed to tweak my Whole30 a little bit.

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS.

So many good books!! I can’t wait to share my latest reading list with you!

Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan

As a fan of many of C.S. Lewis’ works, I was drawn to this novel at once. Reading about a part of his life was fascinating, and I couldn’t put this book down! Getting a peek inside the creator of the world of Narnia is something I’ll go back to time and time again.

First Focus // September

FIRST FOCUS

Goals. They’re great. They really are. They help us aim for something, work for something, and feel accomplished.

However, sometimes I can aim too high, or life gets uber busy, or let’s face it, I just don’t get to it.

So this  month, instead of monthly goals, I’m sharing some of the thing I’ve been focusing on lately. I don’t know why, but this perspective feels more like an enjoyable journey, instead of the destination of success or failure.

After our super busy summer, it’s been SO wonderful to be home and get back to a [somewhat] consistent routine.

(Wo)man vs. Food.

Woman vs. Food

Food. The dictionary defines food as: “any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc.”

So food is simply for nourishment, energy and growth right? Well, it should be. Yes, food can be pleasurable, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But when it becomes more than that, turning into an emotional crutch, it becomes wrong.

CrossFit: Cult or Community?

CrossFit

By now most people have heard of CrossFit. And most of the time, they’ve heard both good and bad things about it. Whether or not you’ve actually attempted the sport, you probably know it’s an intense workout involving heavy weights, weird jargon such as “WOD” and that it calls itself the “sport of fitness.” You may also know lots of people have very strong opinions about it, to the point where they claim it’s a cult.

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014.

2013

2013 was fab. So many wonderful things happened, and the best part was sharing them with my little family of 3. Before I look forward to the 2014, (and I’m really looking forward to this year) I wanted to look back at my goals for December to see how I did!

My goals for December were:

  • Start a new workout. Stuart and I started doing Crossfit in December!

5 Days Later…

First of all…happy Friday! We’re in Xenia, Ohio right now and it’s a very snowy, wintery morning. I would normally love this, except that Stuart and I are driving back to his parents tonight for the weekend, so hopefully the roads will clear up and be safe! But hey, snow or not, it’s FRIDAY! Yay!

Quick update on my December challenge:

I’ve only been officially gluten-free for 5 days so far…which may seem like not a lot, but for me, the fact that I can honestly say I’ve been gluten-FREE for 5 days is a big deal.
