Baby Grand is Growing…Week 19.

19 Weeks

Our little love is 19 weeks “old” today! I wanted to start sharing some updates about Baby Grand, and what I’ve been learning through the process of learning how he/she is growing. 

  • Baby G is the size of a grapefruit- about 8.5 ounces and 6 inches long. 
  • He/she is practicing how to grasp things with his/her hands. 
  • His/her hearing is strong enough now that they can hear sounds outside of the womb. 
  • And the BEST one last…I’ve started feeling his or her little kicks!!! They’re not often, and not strong, but they’re happening! This is definitely the best part so far…and last night for the first time Stuart felt one kick too!

This past week has clearly been really exciting with being able to feel the first movements and kicks from our little guy or girl. The first night I felt them, I couldn’t fall asleep so I sat up a bit and laid on my back to see if by chance I could feel anything. Stuart was fast asleep next to me, so it was a really special moment, just me and babe. It only happened twice that I could feel it, but it was there. I fell asleep even more in love with our little one. 

Since then, I’ve been singing some lullabies at random times throughout the day, hoping to help baby recognize my voice even better, and trying to feel more kicks anytime I’m sitting or laying down. And most importantly, I’ve been praying a lot for our babe everyday. 

I’ve been reading through an awesome pregnancy devotional that my friend Becky sent me called, “Waiting in Wonder.” It’s seriously awesome…if you’re pregnant, I HIGHLY recommend it. (And no, I don’t get any money from Amazon if you click on that link and buy it…I just really think it’s that great.) Anyway…as it was talking about baby’s new grasping abilities, it talked about them grasping the love of Jesus as they get older. One of the verses listed to go along with this was Ephesians 3:17-19:

“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

This verse really hit me when I read it. It’s exactly my prayer for Baby Grand. More than anything, I want him or her to know the love of Jesus. And not just to simply know that Jesus loves them…but to grasp how incredibly powerful that love is, and that because of it, we can have an amazing life, an real purpose, and a truly intimate relationship with the God of the universe.

As much as I already love this little person, our Heavenly Father loves him or her so much more. He already knows what his/her little personality will be like, how many hairs he/she will have on their head when they’re born, (and every day after that) and exactly what he/she is going to do with their amazing life…oh and of course whether it’s a him or her in there! 

Just to know that Jesus loves this baby even more than Stuart and I do is so comforting. (As hard as it is to imagine!) I can only “protect” this baby for 9 months in the coziness of my womb, but after that, the only real protection I can depend on is the hands of Jesus. I hope he or she will always know they are being held in Jesus’ hands, and grasp the depth of that truth.
