First of all…happy Friday! We’re in Xenia, Ohio right now and it’s a very snowy, wintery morning. I would normally love this, except that Stuart and I are driving back to his parents tonight for the weekend, so hopefully the roads will clear up and be safe! But hey, snow or not, it’s FRIDAY! Yay!
Quick update on my December challenge:
I’ve only been officially gluten-free for 5 days so far…which may seem like not a lot, but for me, the fact that I can honestly say I’ve been gluten-FREE for 5 days is a big deal. I’m in a conference-type situation, which means some of the meals are planned for me, so in many cases by now I would’ve cheated.
I realized that I don’t like to inconvenience other people, (the people pleaser in me…) and this is many times why I give up on specific “diets” like gluten-free or paleo. Eating healthy quite frankly, is inconvenient. Figuring out gluten free options is not always easy especially when someone else is providing the food. But this time I was determined. I didn’t want to have to report to you that once again I’ve failed on a food-based goal. So I got the courage and shared that I was eating gluten-free with the woman who is in charge of figuring out food and she was so understanding and willing to help cater to my new diet.
Then came the pizza. And all of the sudden my people-pleasing nature came back and I didn’t want to inconvenience anyone or make people feel weird by awkwardly eating a Larabar and banana while they were pounding delicious pizza. But then I heard we were getting the pizza from Dominoes. Luckily, my friend Allie is gluten-free and I learned from her that Dominoes has a pretty good gluten-free pizza option. So I asked if it’d be ok for me to get a small gluten-free pizza and Susan was more than willing! Score!
I still don’t like to be inconveniencing, but I realized that I need to make my health more of a priority. And if all I have for lunch one day is green beans and potatoes (yesterday’s lunch since there were Swedish meatballs as the main course) then that’s ok.
So here’s to week 2! I feel much more confident in my self-control…especially after I skipped the delicious baguette and cookies from Panera that my friends were eating tonight, and settled on a salad. I know it’s only been 5 days, but I feel like this can actually work. I can actually do this! Woo! (I may or may not have been a cheerleader in high school…)
That’s all for now…I haven’t had a ton of time to read (one of my other Dec. goals) since I’ve been the TA for Stuart’s seminary class this week, but I’m excited to pick some good books once his classes are over next Friday and get nerdy!
